The Day The Earth Stood Still review

Have you had the chance to get out and see Keanu Reeves' new movie, The Day The Earth Stood Still?  If you haven't, then what are you waiting for?

He's sitting pretty at the top of the box office earnings for last weekend at $31 million.

His acting in the movie won't garner him an Oscar nod anytime soon, but it was definitely a good role for him.

Keanu stars as the alien Clatu, who comes to Earth in an ark, to be born.  He grows up to adult size within hours.  He befriends a scientist, Dr. Helen Benson, and her son, Jacob.

As it turns out, he comes to Earth to save the planet, from us.  His plans are to destroy the human race in an effort to save Earth.

Also present is his robot defender, Gort.  Gort is only activated in the presence of any immediate violence.  He protects Clatu and has enough electrical charge to kill the lights in an entire city.

When an attempt to speak with our leaders fails, he decides to go through with his plans to wipe out the human race.  He was only convinced otherwise after seeing that some of us have compassion for others and that we're not all violent.

So he goes back to wherever it is he came from and that's it.  He changed his mind.  On second thought, you might want to wait for this to come out on DVD.
